Paleokastritsa is considered to be one of the most famous places to visit on Corfu island. It includes an area with six small caves and beaches.
The principal one is placed just under the monastery and since it’s bigger than the others, it also offers a large choice of tourist structures.
A second nice beach is placed next to the small pier. Paleokastritsa is famous for its beautiful clear blue and for some visitors cold sea waters. Close to Paleokastritsa main beach there are numerous sea caves along the coast that can only be visited by renting a boat. The most famous one are theNafsica caves and St. Nicholas caves.
Driving through an amazing panoramic road close to the beach of Paleokastritsa you can reach a point where you can admire from the top all the Paleokastritsa area.
From this road you can see all together the six different bays, the two peninsulas and the Mediterranean nature that along with olive and lemon trees touch the Greek sea.
Along with your visit to Paleokastritsa you should pay a visit to the old monastery dedicated to Holy Virgin on the top of a little promontory. The interior of the monastery includes a courtyard with a portico and a modern building which hosts a museum with Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons, sacred books, saintly tools and formal clothing. The view from the monastery is charming and you can admire, besides the sea, the islet opposite to the beach , which has the shape of a ship.
